Reporting to you and mr. mark and the others who have been subjected to the Mystery of the Drive That Was Locked By a Disk Utility So Couldn't Be Defragged, not to mention the part about when defragging, even in Safe Mode, having it start over again and again because a program was writing to disk....

So...

Yesterday, for no reason, really, except that I installed WinMe not long ago and am getting used to it even though I really like Netscape better, in a way, and WinMe is what my new computer comes with, I got a message that pops up ever so often asking if I wanted to make IE my default browser... and this time on impulse I clicked Yes. (I use both browsers but Netscape was the default one.)

Yesterday evening I had to defrag. As I've done each time before resorting to Safe Mode, I tried first the normal way. A formality.

But to my surprise, i didn't get that message.

Not only did it defrag in a lively way, but it never had to restart. Just defragged away.

I really don't think it's a coincidence. It wasn't long after I installed WinMe that I started using IE for the first time.

I think there was some battle of the browsers going on. Does that sound possible to you?

All this wasn't a waste. I really have learned a lot.

Thanks SO much everybody.

It's weird, isn't it?
