Here is a link to a company that has developed some "cleaner" ways of utilizing coal for the utility companies. I also think they have a few other processes that are environmental savers of some kind. Check it out.

Biomass, coal, you certainly aren't worried about global warming!

I think we do have to be concerned with global warming. I find it unfortunate that our leadership does not take it seriously.

Coal can be a bridge to cleaner earth friendly energy resources. LADWP is a good example. They are leveraging their coal proceeds into solar and fuel cell technology.

If one replaces an old coal plant with a new more efficient coal plant greenhouse gasses are reduced.

Biomass is considered a greenhouse friendly resource. Biomass decomposition releases greenhouse gases whether you capture them or not. So why not capture them and make good use of them? If you want to stop bio carbon from getting into the atmosphere you have to bury it and bury it deep. Putting it in a land fill doesn't work as the gas escapes into the atmosphere. Better to capture it and pass it through a fuel cell...the net carbon release is the same.

my point is that of the available energy sources CURRENTLY used, supplies are tight for all of them. And if large diesel generators are used this summer to keep factories, office buildings and hospitals running, things may be even tighter.

The short term solution to the energy crisis is really quite simple. A major conservation effort is needed spearheaded with competent leadership and significant financial incentives.
