Hi Kerry,
We have a thread here on SI where lots of folks contribute and use the Automatic Investment Management (AIM) method. I also keep a web site devoted to the method. It's an investment model that uses cash as an active part of portfolio management. The cash is used to accumulate shares in a period like we've had for most of the last 12 months.

Later, when price/share is up, it requests that we refund the cash reserve through profitable selling of shares previously purchased during the Bear phase. Pretty simple really, and very disciplined.

At my site is a brief description of how AIM works. There's lots of other info there for those who like to dig deeper. Of course there's always Mr. Lichello's book that described the mechanism of AIM originally way back in 1977.
