< Why did it ruin the Mood? >

Sam ~ We've all gone too far along the yellow brick road to return. Hibarbary has become Beirut. Survival is the stake, no longer beers.

Many here will fruitlessly try to somehow recapture the mood of the earlier days on these boards, with its curious sense of community and purpose, with Jill mailing you a tee shirt for reporting a broken server in the Southeast.

That's before we all became so brilliant that it's now hard to suffer even ourselves most of the time. You couldn't wait to log-on in the morning, and the only real villains were those vicious marketmakers.

Most everybody paid their light bills, but were really more interested in what color bikini Lisa was packing for St. Barts, while OJ cruised the parking lot at KLIC most mornings and counted the cars there. Steve Tanis shamelessly pumped Atmel while updating real-time on how many semis were loading on Dell's docks. And *Nobody* worked harder than Jenna to explain the obvious to us hopeless knuckleheads.

We were all against the monolith then, and pretty much cheered the unexpected victories of the small investor with his remarkable new internet magic. Success captured the eye of the cyclops, however. It didn't try to crush us though; they were smarter. The monolith embraced us, and it's been a steady skid since. When we see the enemy now, we are seeing ourselves. It's not a pretty picture.
