snoman, you're a voice crying in the wilderness. The economic system has many many roles and positions. As long as there is freedom of movement, people will compete for the position they want. And if that competition is seen as giving everyone a chance, then people will not resent that someone wins. You'll see resentment only if wealth was restricted to some families, or ethnic groups. People don't consider lottery winnings as unfair. And in many ways, winning great wealth is also dependent on chance.

snoman, the world is screwy, not doubt. the foundation of our economy is greed. iow, what can i do for me and mine.

when all is said and done, i believe that every person's "value" system will be shown to be corrupt. yes, yours and mine, too. it is all too easy to focus on others' shortcomings rather than our own.

it is very easy to say, "if i had a million then i would..." it is much more difficult to actually get it and then spend it on other people you don't really know.

i really don't think people understand how lucky they are to be in positions to control great wealth. they think it is personal skill. of course, some is. but a lot of folks inherited 1. money, 2. rational thought processes, 3. a business, etc. from their parents and i know of no one who chose their parents and the resources they brought to bear on their children.

if bill gates had been born in a drug infested area in south central to a single crack addicted mother... instead of to two lawyers in the seattle area... or if he had been born in 1932... or 2001... you get the picture...

sno, i would encourage you to think hard about using portions of the bible so aggressively, though. it is much easier to see failings in others and lay down judgment on them than to honestly review one's own life (which, w/o exception, leave a ton to be desired). remember, you may be judged using the same yardstick you use to judge others. this is precisely why i DO NOT judge in the sense of condemnation. a may disagree. i may get mad. but i don't use condemnation for personal gratification. i'm imperfect and i hope god forgives all other imperfect people, too.

snoman, the world needs folks like you. but it also need folks that make it go round. communism was a great vision when first proposed over a century ago. but it didn't fly because it didn't honestly address the issue of human self interest. so one can applaud selflessness as a virtue, and as even something to strive for personally, but no society has ever been successfully built on that premise. that's what history has taught us.

snoman, is this you bragging about 600% gains on net stocks using margined credit card money?

i guess the view from atop the soap box is quite a bit different than from the ground where everyone lives.
