Hi TLC, I'll make you an honorary closet liberal if you agree to stay in the closet. <vbg> It appears that the ability to communicate with each other respectfully has more to do with the person than with his or her political leanings. I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. I also like the idea of actively moderated political threads such as this because there are are often hostilities even among liberals and conservatives. BTW, interesting use of the word "infest" in your post. If you wanna be an honorary closet liberal, you're gonna have to choose another term. -g

eventually things turn into a free-for-all, no matter what you're discussing or who is discussing it! We've done pretty well on the debate thread, I think. Things have flared up a few times but it has always self-corrected. I like that thread most of the time. It has quite a variety of perspectives and characters who, for the most part, are able to discuss issues civilly. We get differences of opinion that are more or less individual and not conspicuously partisan. We have liberal and libertarian and conservative perspectives represented but you rarely see anyone talk in terms of Republicans and Democrats, which, IMO, is a very good thing. When things flare up, we have some interlopers who pop in and try to stir things up further by taking pot shots without offering anything of substance, which is very annoying, but they usually don't stick around long. I lopped the GWB bookmark off my list permanently. Between the partisanship and the irritant you mentioned, I can't even stand to read it, much less participate. The LWP is a pleasant place to come and be free from discord. And have a cup of tea. I'm very happy to have been invited. Karen
