Get real. The House, where spending bills originate was always controlled by the Dems. while Reagan was President. In fact Dem hegemony over Congress and budget matters continued into Clitnon's first term.

Yep, Reagan did spend a bunch during his early years. But it was spending that needed spent. Carter had let the military get into horrible shape. Reagan's spending gave us the military able to walk all over Iraq. Carter's army couldn't fly 6 helicopters across a stretch of Iran.
