It's because of the cheap plastic cases and low temperature tolerance of Intel's CPUs. If Intel weren't too cheap to spend the extra $5 per chip for quality ceramic cases (like they used to, and like AMD still does) then Intel wouldn't be having these problems.

:-)

Paul and all:

The previously announced "attrition" plan at Intel is now underway, with the goal of reducing headcount by 5000.

Voluntary Separation Program (VSP) notices are being sent out to employees via e-mail. I'm not going to post the details, because I don't think they're public, but I will say that in my case the VSP payout would cost Intel ~$60,000. My compensation is probably above the corporate-wide average, but even if the average was $30k, this would result in costs of $30,000*5000 people = $150,000,000. With 7B shares outstanding, this could cost about $.02/share.

Adam

>Add to that AMD changing standards every five minutes, and you get what we got now.<

Which company is it that is forcing vendors to use new mobos for 0.13-micron P-III as well as the 0.13-micron P4?

Paul, <<< overclockers.com >>>

That is a very informative article. From reading it and using some common sense, an investor should be able to understand that AMD is not yet in Intel's league. AMD is still a "me-too" clone with all the problems that go along with it.

Most of the regulars on this thread will read it and understand it as will most AMDroids. But, for many of the AMDroids, they will only be energized to post a lot of misleading information - hoping to bury this article and that most investors and those analysts that do "their homework" reading this thread do not see it.

I really can't understand the emotions and pathologies that are involved.

The same kind of emotions occur in inner cities when they try to locate a supermarket or a Fast Food Restaruant in their neighborhood. In most cases, these neighborhoods are run down and where they have to pay a heavy premium for groceries in a store where they have little choice and where very food establishments are willing to invest.

So here you are with a whole bunch of neighbors that would be protesting against these investments because it will destroy their neighborhood and creat a few low paying jobs. This is in a neighborhood that could use any jobs they can get.

The point is, I think the pathologies are the same, only I don't understand it.

Perplexed,

Mary
