i agree about begin/end but emacs generates those very nicely. <= for nonblocking assignment is just an ugly wart which was caused by lack of foresight. originally verilog had no non-blocking assignment. when they added it, i guess <= was the only operator they could come up with. verilog is a relatively difficult language to write a parser for because of these "changes". verilog 2000 looks neat though. finally signed arithmetic.
