I had one of those "Rocket Radios" too. Mine was red with a clear nose.

Before getting this, I had a crystal set. If the "Cat's Whisker" and the coil danced together properly, I could hear a local station, but not very well. We couldn't afford a proper aerial so I connected it to the clothesline wire. As I remember, the thing was made of "Bakelite", a material pre-dating most poly plastics.
