Hi Greta,

The withholding of evidence in the McVeigh case is disturbing to me as well, though I'd be surprised if that kind of thing doesn't happen with some degree of regularity. (Chris, feel free to correct me.)

It's the admission of having withheld the evidence, despite the fact that McVeigh says he is guilty and wants to be executed, that has me puzzled. In my more paranoid moments, I wonder if the FBI didn't discover some sort of retaliatory plan on the part of some group to further martyrize McVeigh on the day of his execution and this is an attempt to thwart those plans.

I know this sounds nuts, but it's Mother's Day so indulge me. -g

It is disturbing, and I don't political or cultural leanings make a difference. The right to a fair trial is something we all would want. And most of us would want for others. Those that wouldn't want the latter come in all stripes. :)

But it is why I can't support the death penalty now unless someone asks for it themselves over life in prison, which I would probably do, guilty or innocent.
