Summer nights are not warm enough in my part of the
world for a successful tomato crop (at least for
me) but I keep trying.

I wonder if they've come up with any cultivars that do better in your area.
This year I'm trying a new variety along with all of our usual favorites.
It called "Fouth of July". It only needs approx. 42 days 'til maturity. I believe the normal ones that I get, like Big Boy, Better Boy, Roma, etc. need more than 60 days. I figured I'd try to stretch the harvest out a little bit longer instead of having to wait until August and then have to pick 10 million over a few weeks...
The plant nursery had a huge variety. There were even some specific types that do best inside pots & planters.

I can't wait for them to come out with a variety that grows right inside the canning jar...
Or better yet, they grow with their outer skin forming a glass jar and has a very sauce like consistancy...
Then all I'd have to do is screw a lit on them and put 'em away in a cool place until needed. <g>
