Dale and Joe -- A dual speed, dual power Palomino sounds nice, but we already have 1.33 GHz Athlons and just enabling power management on a desktop PC would save lots more power than the 10 watts that would be saved by changing the MHz.

The only kind of desktop launch that makes sense for Palomino is one at a freqency > 1.33 GHz. The news blurb that said AMD is now shipping 1.4 and 1.5 Palomino samples to mobo makers is a positive sign that the MHz problem has been solved, although volume production is not here yet.

AMD could have launched desktop Palomino processors that were rated at a peak speed grade of 1.0 GHz and FSB of 100(200) MHz at 1.4v, while being rated at 1.333 GHz and FSB of 133(266) MHz at 1.75v.
