Well Milo.. here's some positive feedback - as usual, the hardware community is much more optimistic then the average AMD innvestor :)

From Tom's Hardware:

Let's now remember that AMD released new processors for notebooks. When you look at the specs and realize the possible performance you will see that AMD's Mobile Athlon 4 launch can be seen as a very significant event. I would say that the ingredients are almost perfect for AMD to quickly gain a respectable share in the mobile market. The processor comes in two form factors, it provides good performance, it is not a power consumption hazard, it doesn't get too hot and the pricing is well chosen too. While Mobile Athlon 4 will attack Intel's Mobile Pentium III from above, Mobile Duron will make its life harder from below. We can certainly kiss Mobile Celeron goodbye very soon. Intel has already brought up the mobile Tualatin processor in its roadmap. It shows that Intel is well aware of the threat.

From Dean Kent of RealWorldTech:

AMD had claimed they began volume shipments of these processors during the last week of March, but some questioned why there were no laptops being offered. Well, that question was obviously just answered. A reasonably well configured laptop from Compaq is under $1800, which compares very well with an equivalent Intel laptop. The processor wars just got more interesting, it would appear.

milo, re:"I'm pissed at the attitude of this board to the Athlon 4 launch" Ditto, I just bought more July 25 calls. AMD is sitting right above its 50 day m.a. and well above its 200 day m.a. The Athlon 4 laptops use considerably less power than the P3 1 GHz laptops. Can't wait for reviews and comparisons to take place, and the server Palomino launch is in two weeks.

This attack on the mobile front is parallel only to the Classic Athlon Launch.

This is a huge win for AMD.

Plus with Ponies expected to be at 1.6Ghz on 180nm, they will compete against P4 at 2Ghz no problem.

Look at the AXIA stepping as a example."

I'm with you...Historic day today on 2 accounts: Intro of Palomino core and intro of "clean kill" mobile...AMD just can't get any respect it seems...YET!!!

<This attack on the mobile front is parallel only to the Classic Athlon Launch.>

Exactly right. Jerry brilliantly targeted Athlon 4 where Intel is the most vulnerable. Now again everybody is saying, "just wait for Tualatin". How quickly everybody forgot the "just wait for Willamette" battle cries. Now we all know what Willamette "event" turned out to be -- a thunderous fart.

Having said that, remember what the AMD stock price was in September of 1999 when Classic was shipping in volume? It was $7. So it takes some time for the stock price to reflect the fundamentals. Those who take a long-term view, stay away from margin and don't play silly option games (as in buying options) will do fine.

I am not buying AMD back yet because I think AMD will be trading bellow $20 or maybe even as low as $15 between now and the end of the year. At which point I will back up the truck again. The stock may correct because of combination of factors:

1. AMD flash is about 80% in cell phones and communications gear. Both sectors are in the tank till probably the fall of 2002 or longer.

2. The bear market will reassert itself with a vengeance after a sudden pickup in inflation numbers.

3. Athlon 4 mobile infrastructure and packaging are not mature yet. This will take time just like it took for Athlon from August 1999 till about now, to truly mature.

4. Hiring Hector was a mistake and if Jerry kicks him out the analysts will loose it.

Kap
