Actually, I found 2 things that were different when I double checked just now. I had a 17 inch monitor ($160) for Dell and a 3 year warranty (as opposed to 1...which was $110)
So, Dell was still more expensive, but not by $400....just by about $130.

Still, Dell wasn't giving me the CD RW discs OR the headset/mic. That was about a $50 value, I figure...so Dell came in $180 more expensive.

Dell's advantage is 90 days no payment.....though I don't know if that is an advantage, since I have the cash to pay for it now.

Now that is mildly troubling for cpq. For 133 and intel brand its worth the 34 bucks or the 140 or the 170 or the whatever.

CPQ Presario 5000 - $1175
Dell Dimension 4100 - $1209

If that $1175 was from the Compaq web site I'd bet that on www.pricewatch.com you'll find the lowest street price on the same Compaq system 5-10% lower. From what I've heard, Compaq won't compete with their retail channel and only sells online at MSLP.

Tomcat - I can't match your DELL prices, or MeD's either, what I get are hundreds more. What's the deal?
