Let's see: wisdom is acquired not by study or investigation or decades of contemplation, or years of ascetic discipline, but by following one's strong prejudices and striving for originality over truth; non- conformity is a rational ethical principle, so that it matters not if one is right, only if one is contrary to custom; and we should be ashamed for not living joyously, even if we are beset with grievous ills. These are the sort of beliefs harbored by Transcedentalists that strike me as shallow.
