My parents met and lived in Flushing, around the 1920s and onward.

I never go there, I don't know what it is like now. You may have a good view of the BQE, but it sure could not be a bucolic one.

I stay away from visits like that. The public school across from my elementary school is now called the "Whitney Houston School for the Performing Arts" or some such nonsense. If any in my old neighborhood had a sense of style it might have been called the "Cissy Houston School", after her mother who performed as well but in the earlier years when being a female singer was far less glamorous. Or for Dionne Warwick, another local.

My catholic school, across the street, was closed and sold to the town who renamed it "The Johnny Cochran School for Legal Studies". Now, that was a stretch. Meanwhile, George Washington Carver and Martin Luther King don't have so much as a memorial toilet.

How long will you be in town, just the weekend? Been planning to drop a bundle at Ferragamo's to go with my "new" wheels. Went out to buy my wife a new Bammer and came home with an antique 914. Told her the salesman said the rear seat was coming in next month. I'm a sucker for classic cars. I call it my mid-life crisis chick magnet.

If you can get into Manhattan, Ferragamo's is uptown not far from the Park. I could take you out to get a cheap drunk at one or another of my Irish Haunts. Cannot hang out too late, if it is Saturday; Killer is wrestling in a state qualifier.
