You have taught me well that the free market determines the value in a much more efficient method than any directive on the part of the Fed can do.

Today if one looks at Japan and all overtures that were made to prime the public to pump into their system one clearly sees you can bring a horse to water and you can also drown yourself while trying to force it to drink.

Of course if you gave the horse a bail of hay doused with salt it might work.

Volckers statement made in 1998 implied to me that one cannot create a direction for the free market. The free market is made up of a complex group of components there of all the FED can do is define dollars.


The market raised them because the individuals in the market acting in "self defence"(sic) refused to lend money at rates discount to inflation

Self defense you and Volcker appear to agree here.
