Here is one chosen at random.patchoulygirl.virtualave.net Your idea that contradictions in the bible are merely apparent , while they become REAL at your grocery store or bank--this causes me to consider that you must have validated this book through some supernatural means: thus, you need only to make up a feww thousand "explanations " to serve your certainty--such as people have been doing for a couple of thousand years. Did somebody tell you that this particular book had only "apparent" contradictions? Hawaii has some rather large fish, doesn't it! In case you ever get swallowed by one and need to spend a few days without air while you are being digested, here is a web site to get you in the kind of excellent shape that Jonah enjoyed. Of course, he walked a lot. Do you? Don't take this serious...smartheartrate.com You still seem to avoid the issue of faith/logic/fact I'm not avoiding any issue. The issue was your objection to a post I had made to someone describing the bible as full of contradictions--not apparent contradictions--but very real and entirely absurd ones. Science deals with the natural world. Science is a tool which has limitations inherent (at the very least) in the capabilities of the person(s) using the tool. If you wish me to comment on the supernatural world that you seem to presume--I'm sorry. I have no more knowledge of the supernatural world than you do, as I am not such. When I make conjectures (what you call "faith") about the possibilities that might obtain in a universe of supernatural creatures--these conjectures are generally very non specific out of respect for the contradictory beliefs of the inhabitants of planet earth, and so as to avoid condemning the presumed afterlife of large portions of the population--merely because they do not share the same delusions as I, nor crawl the same path. And no, science is not my God. But the methodology of reasoned thought has provided a workable way for people to improve the quality of their lives--to bring greater happiness and less suffering--unfortunately, not to all. As far as the interminable arguments about big bangs, etc.--mere hubris. Certainly, thinkers on the leading edge must have a focus, and I applaud their efforts. But let us be honest. Big bangs could be going on all over the damn place, and ungoing on all ever the damn space. We know only next to nothing. We are in a box of thought. Our concepts and our ideas are in the box. In biblical times of primitive nomads, the box ended at a solid firmament which covered a flat earth like a tent, and which held more water than you want to think about. The size of the box has changed; the limitations have not. I only hope this. If (as seems possible) we are ever visited openly by another race of creatures who have developed a consistent belief system, then I hope that their "GOD" does not condemn us to instant slaughter because we are not one of the Chosen Ones--because our LOGIC would not do one damn bit of good in assailing their CERTAINTY--WOULD IT, Papaya?? Don't be afraid to think this through... What counts is not the distance we can see with our feeble eyes, but whether or not you are allowed on your neighbour's grass.
