Pat,

I think you are 100% completely wrong.

California has grown in population and in energy use for decades. For some reason (probably environmental) your state has chosen to stop building power plants. None have been built in your state for over 10 years. As a matter of fact there have been several plants shut down.

California chose to buy any power that it can't provide on its own on the open market from sources outside your state. Bad decision. The open market works on supply and demand. There is LOTS of demand in California. Conserve all you want, it won't make a dent in the demand. There is very little power available. That's called supply and more accurately, lack of supply.

Low supply + High demand = high prices.

You can only blame this on California.

Democratic to the core, California thinks the world should bail them out. California thinks that they should be able to use power, but should be able to shift environmental impacts out of their state.

They are wrong. It's not because your state is the wealthiest, it's because your state is the most ignorant.

IMO,
Dave

Greed is most likely a common link to all of
the factors.

Greed was not an obvious link to what I posted though. Don't you think these companies are being exploited also by being asked to provide power and not being paid and then told they can't sell their product anywhere else? LOL

426 kWh for 32 days last month, beat that!

Patricia,

re >My son lives in Texas and tells me that OPEC is being blamed for the increases in
gasoline in that state. As he told me, "These rednecks don't realize that the U.S. is part of
OPEC!
"<

If your son (or you) actually believe that the US is now or has ever been a part of OPEC... well... guess you both voted for Gore. Most of the confused did.

The California problem was caused by enviro-whacko excesses. They will pay, and Californians had better get their heads screwed on straight or this will happen to them again and again...

If you were really concerned with the power problem in California, you'd shut off your computer and quit wasting watts.

Pat, I live in Texas and am a native Texan (7th generation), and Texans are not concerned about high gas prices (nor do they blame such on OPEC). Perhaps that is why there are zero signs of an economic slow down here.

A lack of competent national energy policy for the last decade is what is driving up the price of gas. Demand is too high for refining capacity. Either we need to reduce demand or increase refining capacity.

Oil has been this high many times before, but never before have prices been so high. It is clear that we do not lack oil, we lack gasoline.

Your son needs to quit hanging out in bars with the clueless rednecks.

Pat, I'm sure if California had gone Bush, things may be going better for Gov. Davis. <VBG>

Davis probably needs to go ahead and pack up his stuff in the Governor's Mansion. He won't be there much longer...
