While listening to McNeill-Lehrer last night two panelists noted that James Watt commented that this is just his energy plan from 20 years ago dusted-off. That did not inspire confidence.

Interstate transmission lines are tough sells at the state level. They're big, and ugly (actually I think they are beautiful, but not in my backyard, please -g- ), but worst of all, they don't directly benefit the people whose land gets taken to build them. If a transcontinental power company asked the Commonwealth of Virginia to condemn, and pay for, Virginia land for the benefit of the residents of California, it would not happen. -ng-
