Good article, and a well- established effect. Why do stores have sales? Because they sell more, and deplete surplus inventory.

I used to deal with a second- hand bookstore, already very cheap. Whenever they had a sale, I would spend two or three times as much. But even more important, I would buy books I would not ordinarily, books I was not sure I cared about or would read, because it was easier to make "wasteful" purchases if the prices were down.

......Mr. Bush's plan, which focuses on allowing companies to get on with the business of producing energy and getting it to people, is the most a government should, or can, do in the sphere of energy policy. Conservation must be seen for what it is--a personal virtue, a market-led way of allocating resources, and even a healthy awareness of man's place in this world. But not by any stretch should it constitute an energy policy.......

This goes to the heart of my last post.

The article makes a lot of good points, and it is becoming more evident to me that most facets of liberal environmental dogma are flawed. In order for mankind to successfully evolve, we must look EVERYWHERE for solutions that will allow us to live harmoniously with each other and nature. Until environmentalists can even admit that mankind will use available resources there will be hostility. Until environmentalist can admit and accept that corporations will take profits, there will be hostility. Until environmentalists willingly, openly, and reasonably join mankind in helping to make the best, safest and cleanest use of those resources with full knowledge that we WILL use the resources, there will be no cooperation. If these obstacles can be overcome, then there will be real solutions. There is an air of fascism attached to the way environmentalists present their causes. I find their tactics personally distasteful and have had quite enough. M
