You think the Israelis were "strong" enough to create their own state in 1948 without the backing of the Brits and Yanks?

Obviously you were a poor student in history. Do you not remember that the British were highly PRO-ARAB?? Do you not recall the guerilla (terrorist?) war the Jews waged against the British (considering the Jewish Zionist community had existed there when Palestine was ruled by the Turks).

Do you not recall the fact that the US, while politically friendly to nations enjoying the fruits of decolonization, WAS NOT inclined to provide arms??

In fact, many of the weapons Israel possessed at that time came from Czechoslovakia, purchased with funds provided by international Jewish donations and smuggled in Israel.

This stands in STARK CONTRAST to the outright British support of the Arab legion. You might do well to review the history of Sir John Bagot Glubb (also known as Glubb Pasha), a British officer who was the commander of the Arab Legion during the Israeli War of Independence.

And you should also bear in mind that the US, afraid of an outbreak of hostilities between the Jews and Arabs, SUSPENDED ALL ARMS SHIPMENTS to the mid-east in 1947.

And in fact, there was a concerted effort by Jewish veterans of WWII to smuggle surplus US aircraft and weapons to Israel. Look at the case of Al Schwimmer, an American who was convicted "in absentia" of violating the US Neutrality Act in 1950 for smuggling arms to Israel, and who spent his remaining days in Israel as a result of that conviction.

It was his planes that flew those weapons from Czechoslovakia to the Israel.

And apparently the only matter with I must "try harder" is pressure you to independently seek the education that you apparently never obtained in college.
