I think the ME situation is probably the main reason for gold's rise. Unless Bush gets involved immediately and very actively and defuses the situation, I can see the seventies all over again, if not worse. His policy of non-involvement is turning into a disaster. The Arab masses are seething and their leadership has no alternative but to respond. And this time around the oil weapon is a lot more potent. The nightmare scenario for the USA is if the Israeli-Palestinian conflict becomes a catalyst for a Saddam-Saudi rapprochement.
