I know what you mean however I did like how how meat tasted
so eating imatations are not unappealing to me. I know other
vegetarians who don't even like the idea of fake meat and
won't buy it..... but they've tried and liked the dishes I make
with the fake meat. Once it isn't meat though the rest is
just semantics. The meat flavors used to describe vegetarian
products are just fixed reference points making substitutions
easier. FWIW the process works both ways. I've invented dishes
with fake meat that non veg friends have made with real meat.
The best one is Blanket In A Pig, which is fake Canadian bacon
wrapped around a garlic knot held together with a tooth pick then
baked. A friend of mine who does catering serves them as an
appetizer with real Canadian bacon or ham.
