It would be better if they were not rewritten. I would throw them all into the swimming pool even without having to make a choice, in the hope that it might improve humanity. I doubt it would make people any worse. And the people I know who are without a typical religion are much nicer people than the people with one. So either the really horrible people are the ones attracted to religion in the first place, or religion makes them horrible. Either way, could a world without religion be worse? Hard to imagine. On a brighter note, I saw some very good movies. I recommend Quills, although it isn't in the least accurate about de Sade. The movie is full of interesting ideas, but they had to turn de Sade into a kind of hero to explore them, which is too bad, considering what he was actually like. It's a good movie nevertheless. Yi-YI was fantastic. It's marvelous and I need give no qualifications about my praise. I also saw Boesman & Lena based on the Athol Fugard play. Depressing. But good. Maybe this isn't part of the brighter note. Best of Show was excellent the second time around. It was so good I rented it on video. I loved it in the theatre and it was just as good on video. Excellent mockumentary.
