yeah, I remember that...gold ran at the end of May last year, too. Seems that it often moves in january and may.

Look at this one: gold took off with the stock market in summer 1982 too:

you can see gold exploded with the market in 82, but settled back when inflation didn't occur.

2002 will set the stage for the entire decade: did the fed overstimulate? will inflationary pressures grow and persist? Or do we get 3.0 to 3.5 funds rates with inflation stable like the early 90's?

Perhaps the Bush's aggressive energy policies will save the day, down the line. I dunno what's gonna happen. It all seems much complicated than any time in my recollection.
