The ones I ran into used them for check cashing and check them against your DL.

Good point. I've always used an alias on my supermarket card. But I also usually use my ATM card for purchases. Question: Do they just link the alias on your card to your real name on your ATM? If not, they should. The only way to foil this is to use cash. Very inconvenient. But I guess you can always get cash on your ATM card in the supermarket lobby. And pay the $1.50 fee. Interesting how difficult protecting your privacy is becoming. I suspect most people will eventually just figure they're going to get the info anyway and stop worrying about it.

BTW, on the same subject, anybody use Ad-Aware software to ferret out spyware? Check out www.lafasoft.de

From the Microsoft forum, Margie unravels the legal tangle of the doj vs. msft appeal. A great read for Mr. Softee fans.
