fyo, re: PSU requirements for Athlon

I agree fully on the need for high quality PSU for Athlon systems and have frequently consulted AMD's recommended PSU list. However, even for heavily equipped Duron systems (all slots and drive bays full) the PSU seems to be less critical. While waiting for a good 300W PSU to arrive he was going to use an old HP supplied 150W unit until I talked into please taking an old Micron supplied 200W unit. It worked just fine. And I have built a couple of Duron systems with generic PSU that are light weights (literally).

However, for my 1.2G AXIA I am planning to use a Sparkle or Enermax 300W or better. I might try one of the generic 300W but I bet the voltage monitor will be pinging all day from low transients.

OEMs have sometimes squeezed costs on the PSU for Athlon systems but I would worry if the user planned to add a lot of internal devices.
