Gains Market Share According to New IDC Research Date: 5/21/01
SAN JOSE, Calif., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade(R)) (Nasdaq: BRCD), the world's leading provider of infrastructure for
Storage Area Networks (SANs), announced today that according to new industry research published by IDC, the company continues to extend its lead in the Fibre
Channel hub and switch market and gained market share by all measures: factory
revenue, units and port count. According to the IDC data, in 2000 Brocade accounted for 93 percent of all fabric switch factory revenue and port shipments
and a majority of the overall SAN infrastructure market. IDC believes fabric switch port shipments will experience a compounded annual growth rate of 69.4 percent from 2000 to 2004. In addition, IDC estimates that by 2004, fabric switches are expected to account for more than 67 percent of all SAN infrastructure ports shipped. The IDC Report "2001 Worldwide Fibre Channel Hub and Switch Market Forecast and
Analysis, 1998-2004," which will be published by IDC later this month, ranks Brocade as the number one provider of Fibre Channel fabric switches in 2000 and
2001. The report also shows the Fibre Channel switch market growing rapidly with
factory revenues forecasted to reach more than $1 billion in 2001, or 60 percent
more than 2000. "Our data indicates that Brocade continued to gain market share since our last
report in 2000, increasing its share of the total market by all counts in a market that is growing at a rapid rate," said IDC analyst, Eric Sheppard. Brocade SilkWorm(R) fabric switches provide the world's leading intelligent networking foundation for storage area networks. Using Brocade switches, customers can connect servers with storage devices through a SAN, creating a highly reliable, manageable, scalable, and secure environment for storage applications. With approximately 900,000 Gigabit Fibre Channel ports shipped to
date, Brocade is the world's leading provider of SAN infrastructure worldwide,
with more than four times the installed base of its next-nearest market segment
competitor.* "We are pleased that this new market research reflects our continued market leadership expansion. With 93 percent of the fabric switch market, and the majority of the overall SAN infrastructure market, Brocade is well positioned to
capitalize on our installed base as our customers expand their storage area networks. Through the Brocade Intelligent Fabric Services Architecture, we offer
a unique value proposition to customers requiring a highly reliable, available,
and secure storage environment for their storage applications," said Jack Cuthbert, Brocade vice president of Sales, Marketing, and Support Services. The Brocade Intelligent Fabric Services Architecture The Brocade Intelligent Fabric Services Architecture defines a networking foundation to support the requirements of next-generation enterprise storage applications, such as resource optimization through server and storage consolidation; simplified management through storage virtualization and centralized management; and high availability architectures such as server clustering and data replication for disaster recovery.
