I got a weird ergonomic problem that I think might make for
some interesting discusion. My hands starting going a little numb
in my sleep about 6 weeks ago. Some nights would be worse than
others but I couldn't figure out the trigger. I bought gloves that
are supposed to help with corporal tunnel syndrome and repetitive
motion problems. They helped a little but were no cure. Flax seed
oil also helped but again it wasn't a cure. After doing a lot of sawing
last week the numbness got worse and my wrists swelled. I went
to an orthopedic today. He said I don't have corporal tunnel syndrome
I have a problem with my elbows, that I must be doing some activity
that's putting excess preasure on them. The only time I have any preasure
on my elbows is when I pet my cat for ~about 5 minutes a day and when
I'm at my computer. I thought proper positioning was to have your elbows
level with your desk so your wrists aren't bent when mousing or typing
which does place very slight preasure on elbows.
I've had my chair set the same way for over 2 years and didn't have any
problems before. The only thing that I changed recently was my grip when
I do bench pressing. A few people including a personal trainer said I was
gripping wrong so I changed to the grip they all reccomended. I think it's
a coincidence and so did the orthopedic but I still can't figure out why this
started. The orthopedic wants to see me again in 3-4 weeks and to careful
how I use my elbows. He also said sleeping on my elbows wasn't the cause.
Anybody else ever experience anything similar or have any ideas for me to try?
