Speak softly and carry a Big Stick - sounds familiar
Enduring friendship with China By Prof Khalid Mahmud

EXCERPT
Much water has flowed down the rivers since enmity towards India was seen as the key link in Sino-Pakistan friendship. The Chinese have since made it crystal clear that seeking friendship and cooperation with India is in line with their foreign policy objectives. end excerpt

JPR's note
There is no such thing as enduring friendship or enmity. Shifting sands of time determine the status of relationship. But one thing is certain that a country can remain a puppet. That is the ordained and enduring status for punkistan. There is already a shift in Sino-Pakistan relationship in that China seeks a shift in relationship with India - now that the Chinese know that India also has a long-reaching Big Stick - from adversarial to cooperative engagement with India. It is how much in terms of dollars that China is able to sell its goods in India compared to Pakistan will determine the balance and stance in its relationship with South Asian countries.

As Vajpayee said, it is in the interest of India that pakistan is prosperous and stable. Hopefully it will exceed India in its prosperity and stability. Is it in the cards? Only the oligarchs will know. May be not.
The article says that the Chinese should learn Urdu. What an idiotic idea. For the Chinese, if they want to learn any foreign language, it is English and not Urdu, not Hindi. Sorry World. It is English all the way.
Punkistan can't have guns and ghee at the same time. Give up guns and have more ghee.
The article talks about trickle-down prosperity to Pakistanis. That is a dream. It has always been get-rich-quick scheme for oligarchs of all shades. ---JPR

Kuldip Nayar.
No distant neighbors
Why can't India and Pakistan think of the region as the whole and its people? The core problem is not Kashmir. Kashmir is a symptom, not the disease. The disease is distrust with which the two countries have lived since partition. Let them shed that first. The rest will follow. End excerpt

The disease, its cause and course go way back to the time of muslim invasion of India and it is not possible to cure this disease in a few generations. It will take that long - a few hundred years - to cure it. Take the Arabs and the Jews. A few thousand years have passed and no relief is seen yet. By the way they are more similar to each other genetically than the Indians and pakistanis - JPR
