"Your experience with Fleet seems to indicate a reluctancy on their part to open their arms and welcome you as a valued customer with a large credit line to someone who I'm sure has an excellent credit history. "

I think it likely that they aggregated the accounts and took the total into consideration, bwdik? I might be wrong in thinking that the line would have been higher had I not already had the other card. I agree with you that there seems there has to be a limit somewhere, but I thought that a couple of years ago and the offers just keep getting juicier. I got the first 0.9% offer I've seen in the mail yesterday from Discover. It only lasts until 11/01, and I opened a card with a teaser rate from Discover a couple of years ago and they also gave a tiny credit limit. I never did a tranaction with that card.

The 0% isn't a truly profit free loan as well, since they insist on a balance transfer at 9.99% and the 0% only applies to purchases. They will collect their percentage on all the purchases, and I'll bet that most folks don't do the transfer and pay it off before they start making charges. Then of course, they apply any payment only to the 0% purchases so the balance transfer interest keeps building and building. Also don't forget that if you pay one minute late once or go over the limit by a penny they probably jack up the rate to some ungodly 20+%. They do set a fair number of traps, and I'm sure they catch many unwary folks.

They must trap enough folks who have the intention of paying in full by the end of the promo rate but end up not being able to do so to make it worth their while. Though it sure does seem like they're giving away the store sometimes.
