What we do not have is a shortage of obscene profits for companies in the energy business, and this coincides with the two former oil compadres campaigning on energy topics, taking over the WH and talking up shortages to gain political favor to drill in places where most americans say they should not.

(1) Have you ever heard of a market economy?

(2) I believe most Americans, when asked a question that is properly structured, will support drilling in Alaska. If you ask, "Do you support drilling in Alaska if it (a) reduced our dependence on Iraq & others for oil, and (b) if necessary to insure a ready supply of oil at reasonable prices over the coming few years?", they will answer the question in the affirmative.

When they are asked the question, "Do you support drilling in pristine areas of Alaska just to make more profits for the oil companies", even I won't support it.

Only the extremest liberals will be against drilling in Alaska if it is explained that drilling can be done in an environmentally sensitive way, and that it is necessary to keep Saddam Hussein from controlling our oil supply.

I think it is important to keep in mind that we wouldn't have this problem had the previous administration had the gumption to put forth a little leadership. Of course, leadership wasn't one of the qualities of the previous administration...
