( BW)(TX-DELL)(DELL) Dell Helps Customers Speed Deployment of Leading
Business Software
Business Editors & High-Tech Writers
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2001--Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today
expanded its Infrastructure Accelerators initiative, a program that helps
customers simplify the deployment of leading business software, to include
additional applications from Ariba, Microsoft and Vignette.
The company also announced a relationship with BEA Systems to factory
install BEA WebLogic Server on Dell(tm) PowerEdge(tm) servers for support of
Java-based applications.
In addition to the infrastructure accelerators launched last month, Dell
provides a portfolio of tools for businesses to design, deploy, install and
configure Ariba(R) Buyer(tm) Application, BEA WebLogic(R) Server, and
Vignette Content Management Server and Lifecycle Personalization Server. For
each application, customers can take advantage of performance
characterizations, custom factory integration, sizing tools, technical white
papers, best practices customer workshops and solution engineering services.

For customers trying to simplify the process of creating and managing
multiple Web servers, Dell will offer pre-installation of Microsoft's
Application Center 2000, a comprehensive Web farm deployment and management
tool. Rather than deploying costly, monolithic servers built on proprietary
hardware and software, customers can scale out their Web infrastructure
using redundant clusters of PowerEdge or PowerApp(tm) servers running
Microsoft Application Center 2000 on Windows(R) 2000 Server and Advanced
Server.
Java Customers Supported
For customers deploying Java-based applications, Dell will offer BEA
WebLogic Server pre-loaded on Dell PowerEdge servers running Microsoft
Windows 2000. Dell has already received industry praise for its
proof-of-concept demonstrations of BEA WebLogic Server on PowerEdge
Itanium-based servers running Red Hat(R) Linux(R). BEA WebLogic Server is
used by more developers, independent software vendors (ISVs), application
service providers (ASPs) and system integrators (SIs) than any other
platform. Serving as the foundation for e-business applications, BEA
WebLogic Server provides the underlying application infrastructure required
for high scalability and mission critical applications.
"Customers want to take advantage of pre-configured enterprise-class
solutions they can deploy quickly and cost effectively," said Mike Lambert,
senior vice president, Dell Enterprise Systems Group. "With Dell's
Infrastructure Accelerator initiative, we simplify the configuration and
deployment of leading e-business applications on Intel architecture-based
hardware from Dell."
Dell recently introduced Premier Enterprise Services to help Dell server and
storage customers simplify enterprise computing and get the most out of
their IT investments and resources. To speed deployment, Dell's Custom
Factory Integration provides custom configuration and installation of
software and hardware during the initial system build in the factory.
Customers can also take advantage of Dell's Premier Enterprise Support
featuring tiered service packages (Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze) for Dell
hardware, operating systems, and select Microsoft.Net applications to help
satisfy their mission-critical needs.
