I actually feel bad ... there were a number of (IMHO) very good people let go during this last layoff. And I have to be honest ... when I saw it coming, I suggested that my name be added to the list.

I have realized that it makes no sense for me to continue my projects if I am not going to receive official support for any of them. My team and I have been doing everything we can to keep them alive, but without any support from above we have been unable to make the progress that we hoped for. I have to admit that I have failed to make a difference for the company within the environment that I was provided. I have learned a *huge* amount about teams, organizational structures and communications. And I have to admit that my current understanding of digital identity management is far beyond where I was a year ago.

So currently my last day at Novell is scheduled to be July 6th. Over the next 5+ weeks I'll continue to push forward to make a difference, and to look for ways to communicate the value of our projects - from digitalme to our ZENworks for Wearable Computers to our 802.11b wireless network solutions.

It's been a fun year, and we made a huge amount of progress in opening doors ... I have to admit that I am disappointed that I might not have the opportunity to take advantage of those new openings!
