<< Sounds scary when you say it like that, but if you rephrase it: 'competing against chips potentially clocked 33% higher' >>

You don't think that sounds bad? I think that sounds horrible. It really doesn't matter how you word it, once the p4 is on an equivilent platform to the Athlon, I think we're going to watch GHZ sell, and I think our recently gained market share will be in jeopardy big time. Especially considering the fact that we sell almost exclusively to the consumer market where people are less likely to know the real performance of the two chips.

The only market that AMD will probably not share to is the DIY market, and I don't know what percentage of the whole market that is, but probably not big enough.

<< I suspect AMD will do what it takes to maintain parity, if not superiority. Wait for 'crush'. Remember Jerry's comment about the P4 quake III advantage disappearing in a few months? >>

Remember Jerry's comments about 1 Billion in operating profit for 2000, or his comments about a 1.5 ghz in January, or his comments about Mustang and mobiles in Q4 of last year? I can think of lots of comments by Jerry that would have been great news if true. Unfortunately, almost none of them ever come true.

<< I'd say the news lately has been moderately good, and June 4 is shaping up to be spectacular. >>

It's nice that after June 4th we'll finally have mobile and SMP, but the palomino seems like a mild disappointment to me. I was hoping it'd be clock for clock a bit better then the thunderbird, and so far it doesn't really seem to be. 1.4 ghz is still too low. I'd like to see parity with Intel on clockspeed, and I think AMD will always be at a very high risk until that's true.
