<< If GHz sold, the P4 would be selling like hotcakes. >>

It may sell a heck of a lot better when the systems are priced equivilently. When you can into best buy and get a 2 ghz machine with the same options as a 1.5 ghz machine then we'll have a real comparison, and at some point that will be true.

<< It isn't. It's had a clock speed advantage for 6 months now, but the word seems to be out that frequency != performance. >>

That's one theory, I think another would be that frequency isn't the most important factor when the system costs 33% more.

<< Imagine if AMD had released the P4 with its devastating reduction in IPC and increase in power requirements. What would you be saying about it then? >>

The same thing I'm saying now. That I think under equal pricing environments GHZ will sell better then real performance. I'm not claiming the p4 is a great chip or anything. I'm just claiming hte general public won't know the difference, and the corporate world will continue to shun AMD.

<< Besides, if you're right, and GHz begins to sell, all AMD need do is run a few transistors of the chip at 1.5 times the frequency, use a 2/3 divider on the rest, and tout its next generation chip. >>

Do you think AMD would do that? I don't.
