I forgot one key component: They would also need to double the die size for no good reason. :)

doug, I agree with you that selling AMD's top speed at the same price as Intel's top speed would be difficult at 2 GHz vs. 1.5 GHz.

But AMD, has NOT been selling 1.33 at the same price as Intel's 1.7 and I expect that to continue. Plus there is a $100 to $200 higher platform cost for the P4, so AMD 1.33 systems should not be as expensive as Intel 1.7 systems.

Personally, I don't believe we will be seeing 2 GHz P4's anytime soon, i.e., 1.4 Athlons will definitely arrive first, and possible 1.5's as well.
