Doesn't surprise me.

SI is definitely on the defensive. Don't know how much longer they will be around. Shame, really, if all this history of posts disappears. Wonder whether, if SI folds, it will be possible to preserve the posting record. There are some real jems in here, as well as a whole lot of garbage.

Let's see. We're up to 1.6 million posts or so. If each post is, say, on average, 8 lines long--there are an awful lot of one liners--and you printed them in a standard book of about 45 lines per page, you would have 5 or 6 messages on a page. Call it 5.5. That's close to 300,000 pages. A good fat book is 800 pages. That gives us 37,500 volumes. An 800 page book takes maybe 2" of shelf space. Six books to the foot. 6,250 feet. Over a mile of books. That's what the posters on SI have written over the years.

Guess they'll never be printed and sold as a series!
