Poland has had unions for decades.

What has separated America from the rest of the planet is freedom. Freedom creates the environment around which creativity and innovation flourish. Freedom to become rich off of ones creative energy, without having the wealth taken by the government. Freedom to travel, freedom to worship the religion of ones choice, freedom to own land, homes, buildings and corporations.

The free spirit of America has created the environment around which all else is possible. Without freedom, (protected by laws and and a military/civilian enforcement system which uphold the laws) feudalism, communism, socialism, or fascism take root and decrease the motivation to innovate.

This is another reason why Democrats, who believe so deeply in socialistic answers to our problems, are so dangerous to our future prosperity. The government doesn't innovate, individual people working together do. The governement doesn't stimulate creativity, people working under a system of constant "Urgency to change" do. The government doesn't hold our answers to future prosperity, and health. People working in organizations creating value to meet the newest customer need do.

You're probably correct Patricia. One thing's for sure: safety in the workforce would be nonexistent if it weren't for unions. Discrimination would be the rule rather than the exception if it weren't for unions. And I most certainly agree that a *pure* Capitalistic model would not work at all, in that there would only be rich and poor. The computer would never have gotten so far without a middle class of people to purchase it... and I agree that there would be no middle class if it werern't for unions. The right may wish to call them communists, but that only shows their ignorance and simple-mindedness. If they want to see Capitalistic principles put to good use, then why are they so against opening up our borders to the free flow of labor?? Why do they want to subsidize nuclear power?? Hypocrits.

Unions act as a counter-balance to Big Business's abuse of labor. What I find interesting is that while you and your comrades perpetually find fault with Big Business, you rarely admit that the Unions have their own negative impact on society and the economy.

I do not deny that Big Business has a general nature to overlook the human side of things, and quite often.
