A Return to Stocks in April

Investors returned to stock funds in April after two months of scorn, as the revival of the market buoyed sentiment. Stock mutual funds took in $10 billion to $25 billion in net new money from investors last month, according to projections from four fund-tracking firms. The Investment Company Institute, the industry's main trade group, will release its numbers this week.

The inflows follow two months of outflows as the bear market chilled investors on stock funds. But overall industry inflows were the lowest since September, according to Lipper Inc. Investors pulled money out of havens like bond funds and money market funds, which had been popular early in the year.
