I think they meant 'mustang' for the dumped core.

Mustang core was not dumped. Palomino and Morgan are based on the Mustang core, while the large cache variant - also called Mustang - was dumped (or put on hold indefinitely).

Nope.

I don't presume to speak for Dale, but (IIRC, as always) there was a design team working on "K8" even before the K7 reached production. I'm not sure when it was terminated, though (my guess would be around the time of first silicon for K7).

I'm sure Dale (or Scumbria) can provide significantly more info.

I do recall that it was well known who lead the effort I just can't recall who it was ;p.
