The estimate of the casualties sustained on both sides by an invasion of the Japanese home islands, based on our experience invading Okinawa, made it more humane, and a lesser loss of life, to use the shock effect of the atomic bombs. Remember, after Hiroshima, the Japanese still wouldn't surrender, which is why we bombed Nagasaki......

I guess you figure it's irony. Many American lives were saved. And then we rebuilt Japan and Europe, our enemies, go figure.
