The reason is that the nation mobilized around Hitler, regardless of prior party allegiance, en masse, and with few reservations.

Many mobilized around Hitler not because they really liked the man but because the country was so far in debt and was desperate for any solution. Why were they in debt? Because after WW1 they were forced to pay reparation to the extent that they had a complete economic upheaval. Hitler decided to find a scapegoat. He blamed the Jews because they had shown seemingly no sympathy for Germanys decaying condition and were notoriously known for their shrewdness in handling finances.

When the antichrist comes on the scene he to will find a scapegoat for the woes of the whole world. It will be the Jews and the Christians. And though his fury will not be justified he will sway the hearts and the minds of the people.
