E.: WAY OFF TOPIC: How could I be so wrong, for so many years? Is my Bible lying to me? The Jewish nation or Israel got its start when God called Abraham out from Ur of the Caldees to settle in the land of Canaan. God promised Abraham that He would make him a great nation and his descendant would number as the stars of heaven. After Abraham descendants grew to about 70, and to prevent intermarriages with surrounding peoples of Canaan, and to allow them time to grow into nation, God caused a famine over the land that resulted in Abraham's family moving to Egypt. This was set up years earlier when Joseph was sold into Egyptian slavery but through divine intervention became 2nd ruler in all of Egypt. After 400 years of affliction, Moses delivers Israel out of Egypt and Joshua leads the nation of Israel across the Jordan River and enters the Promised Land and takes possession of it as a nation. E. Where am I wrong? Eclectus Got God? Got Gold?

This little "history" conflicts with all available evidence from the Bible, ancient historians, archaeology and linguistics. I wouldn't bother to mention it but I don't want anyone on this thread to be led astray. Just for starters, Hebrew is unquestionably Semitic and its alphabet derives from the Phoenician alphabet. The Phoenicians, who were great sailors, also taught their alphabet to the Greeks, which is why Greek and Hebrew alphabets have similar letter-names, though the names are meaningless in Greek, eg. Hebrew aleph, an ox, Greek, alpha; bet, a house, Greek, beta, gimel, a camel, Greek gamma. The Greeks never had a fish-headed god named Dagon, as the Philistines did, or any animal-headed gods, and didn't even arrive in Greece until about 2000 bc (later still for the Doric Greeks), not 6000 bc. The Philistines were not Greeks.
