Paul:

"Granted, Crackserver and Workstations-For-Cheap will design in these AthWIpers4US - and AMDroids will buy them - but hey - you and NG and
your ilk ain't gonna make AMD any money on this. "

Sounds like a rewording of your general commentary on the Athy, and the Athlon 4...Probably turn out to be about as accurate a predictor as well!!!

>Intel has dual XEONS - 1.7 GHz - already designed into - and shipping in - workstations.<

Considering how much faster the Athlon 4 is on applications, such as 3DStudio Max, vendors seriously into the visualization market would be running a big risk by not offering an Athlon 4 based workstation. Remember, the users of workstations don't buy into all the raw MHz bull.

"Do you really think that saving $900 (TOPS) is worth the risk (for an OEM) of putting an unstable, unproven and
potentially unreliable system out into a customer's hands - when Intel is providing compelling solutions that are already road-tested and proven?"

Since when are the Xeons and the i860 road-tested and proven? Weren't both of them just released?

Paul: unstable, unproven and potentially unreliable system

Sounds like P4 to me. Certainly, you can't have your Dual Processor server running a Microsoft OS and claim stability and/or reliability. The "incompatibility" between the two has been well-publicized (regardless of who is to blame for the whole issue).

Wrt proven... Foster+i860 is far from that. Only a few million P4s have shipped and Foster+i860 have just now commenced shipments. Not exactly proven technology
