Dale:

">Or designing in Intel's new Tualatin - lower power yet faster than an AThWiper4US - and a LOT CHEAPER because of the 83 sq. mm die size vs.
128 sq. mm AthWiper4US?<"

Two years ago, when the Athlon was introduced, it was the P4, according to Pauline thought, that was going to block the "spry Athy" from getting out of the gates...Two years later, still waiting for the P4 flubber to climb out of the tarpit and mount a serious price/performance challenge to the "spry Athy"...

The captioned "TooLatInTheDay" ("TooLateIn" for short) hype, surprisingly???, is analogous in stream of thought to the P4 hype of two years ago...Too early to tell whether the "TooLateIn" will live up to its hype as well as the P4 has...I wouldn't count on it getting out of the tarpit at a rate any faster than has the P4 though!!!

Dale, Re: "AMD did have 50% of the mobile market until about a year ago"

I think AMD peaked at 55% of the retail mobile market based on a value reported on 06/01/00. However, Intel was over 90% of the corporate market in the same article. Link is dead now (http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/zd/20000811/tc/new_sony_notebooks_to_feature_transmeta_amd_chips_1.html).

I haven't seen any more recent numbers for AMD share and the data I have noted on mobile vs total market has a lot of inconsistencies from article to article (so much that the values are not worth reporting here) and are dated.

Re: "mobile Duron will enable AMD to recapture the low end market that K6 once dominated. "

Very doubtful they will re-capture much.

So far, where is the wave of support - in stripped down Japan-only notebooks?
