Chaz,

<< Alcatel will do likewise with clamps on Lucent CDMA 2000 ... Comments? >>

You could of course be correct, but it might be a little early to conjecture.

Lucent's great strength in wireless is cdmaOne/cdma2000 infra. They are chasing WCDMA but have only one contract in hand.

Likewise Alcatel chasing WCDMA but is having real problems competing with Ericsson and Nokia. Reportedly Alcatel has invested nowhere near the R&D dollars in WCDMA infra as those two have.

Their is a cross-modal standard out there for 1xRTT on a GSM/MAP network. to my knowledge nobody is commercializing it.

What better combo than these two to do so?

Just a thought. Otherwise, no opinion yet.

I don't see ALA throwing out the $5 billion dollar vendor agreement V has with LU out with the bathwater.

And they are unlikely to unseat Nokey-Dokey, Errorickson, Batwing, NEC, Infeon on vaporware WCDMA.

I see them helping the cause in penetrating Fortress Europa.
