If the Republican party had its' way you could deduct all of your healthcare costs, including insurance premiums. They just can't get such a plan through a congress full of Democrats.

The truth is that health insurance companies and any insurance companies for that matter have been allowed to reduce their risk since their inception. This wasn't as bad when medical costs were a lot lower. Through legislation, primarily but Democrats, medical costs have skyrocketed over the last 30 years. Jim

Amy, RE: Fortunately, on April 2000, the law changed (thanks to the Democrats!!!) and the following occurred: - health insurance companies are now federally mandated to give health care to startups and can no longer deny coverage to a new employee (Go Democrats!!!) - health insurance companies are now federally mandated to provide coverage for diabetes (Go Democrats!!!). (The extra cost of this was passed equally to all businesses, and was a matter of only a few cents - a no brainer!) The Republican Party's positions are hostile to startups and they frankly are bad for you and your business. Their positions make absolutely no business sense at all, going counter to the productivity that startups offer to the US growth. The Republican Party's positions are bad for startups and small businesses. While your position is plausible, it is by no means cut and dried. Primarily because of these actions, health care costs have risen in the last year faster than any other good other than energy. The cost of health care declined for most of the 90's. They rose more than 5% in the past year. While the Democrat programs may have simplified the process for you, there is an unquestioned cost, and the inflation worries in spite of the current economic slowdown is reflective of that cost; that cost is much more than just a few cents.
